Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno announced a significant investment in the mining sector. Vicuña Corp., whose shareholders are BHP and Lundin Mining, has announced an estimated investment of US$18 billion for the first 10 years of the Josemaría and Filo del Sol projects, with US$7 billion to be invested between now and the first copper concentrate in 2030. This announcement comes amid a criminal complaint filed against the Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, and other officials. Quirno linked the influx of investment to reforms pushed by President Javier Milei, stating that Argentina will now have one of the world's largest copper, gold, and silver mines, ranking in the top five globally. "More investment, more exports, and much more employment for Argentines," he emphasized, adding that "Argentina will be prosperous". President Milei reposted Quirno's message in a show of support, writing: "Excellent news, Long Live Freedom, Damn It".
"Excellent news, wrote Milei. "Long Live Freedom, Damn It." Regarding the complaint, Quirno did not delve into details, focusing instead on the positive economic outlook and the unprecedented wave of foreign direct investment driven by the new administration's policies.
